The core of the house is an adobe block colonnade which is curved to accommodate the gently sloping topography of the site. The remainder of the house is highly insulated timber framed construction. The adobe walls are designed to store the heat of the day and release heat back into the building during the night. Carefully placed skylights allow the sun to shine directly on the adobe walls. The ground floors are concrete slab with perimeter insulation and a sealed finish for maximum passive effect. The design also features solar hot water, rainwater collection, a composting toilet and natural ventilation throughout.
